New Astor Library On The Way

A new County Library being developed in Astor will include new amenities to serve residents of the area. The facility will feature a 5,600-square-feet open floor plan, the first library drive-thru window for both drop-off and pick-up in Lake County, space for computers, flexible seating for readers and laptop users, a study room, and a 280-square-foot conference room.
Additionally, the plans include a community services room to help residents to meet with Housing and Human Services, Veterans Services, and other non-profit resources.
The facility’s large footprint will allow it to provide a collection of offerings, from the current 13,000 items to 17,000 items. In addition to the materials the library already features, including books, DVDs, and audiobooks, the library will provide sports equipment that can be checked out and used in the County’s parks. The new children’s area in the library will feature a rotunda with large windows to provide a glimpse of the surrounding nature and ample seating for caregivers and children. The western side of the building will feature a large terrace for outdoor reading.
The current timeline for the new Astor County Library includes:
• Beginning construction on the new library (Summer-Fall 2023)
• Debuting the new Astor County Library (December 2023)
The current estimated budget for the new library is $2.2 million and is partially funded with a HUD grant. The remainder of the project will be funded with Infrastructure Sales Tax funds, Impact Fee funds, and donations from the community. The design for the new Astor County Library was created by local architectural and design firm Powell Studio Architecture located in Clermont.
