Development Meeting Set In Umatilla - Group Forms

Residents living in the area of a proposed apartment complex in Umatilla have announced a Facebook page designed to serve as a central communication spot for those interested in helping impact future growth in town.
‘Umatilla Residents For Responsible Growth’ is now active on the social media platform.
“It’s a private group,” said Scott Ede, a Fletcher Road resident whose house sits directly across from a proposed 116-unit complex.  Ede, and others in the immediate area, are hoping to build a public consensus regarding residential densities both at the Fletcher Road site, and in Umatilla in general.
“We came from Vermont to get away from this,” Ede said on Monday while discussing the topic.
The Facebook group is private, and Ede said those interested in growth in Umatilla can request to become members.
“We primarily want to get Umatilla residents,” Ede said, but others in the surrounding community could also be welcomed.
The developers of a proposed 116-unit apartment complex at the intersection of CR 450NE and Fletcher Road have announced plans for a public meeting regarding the controversial request.
The idea of a public input session sponsored by the applicants was spawned last week, when the first hearing on the request was to come before the Umatilla City Council.  Faced with an uncertain outcome, a lawyer for the applicant requested the hearing be pushed into March to allow for time to meet with citizens who have voiced strong displeasure with the idea of a high-density apartment complex being built on the site.
The meeting will be held on Wedensday, February 8, at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Cadwell Park community building in downtown Umatilla.
