Communities Celebrate Restaurants, Library Projects
Celebration of new growth took center stage in North Lake County on Thursday, June 1. In Astor and Umatilla, government, business, and community leaders gathered to celebrate new projects.
The new Pizza Hut/KFC in Umatilla was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official opening of the combo location, which replaced a former Pizza Hut location at the site. In Astor, Lake County officials led a public gathering that celebrated the groundbreaking for the county's new library in River Country.
The Pizza Hut/KFC event was organized by the Umatilla Chamber of Commerce, which also welcomed KFC officials during the organization’s monthly breakfast meeting, where they discussed the project and the company’s operations. Chamber officials were joined by City of Umatilla representatives in welcoming the company’s new operations to the community.
The Astor library project will see the county replace the current, modular, library on Alco Road with a permanent building. Estimated at $2.2 million, the new building will cover 5,600 and be built on the same site as the current library.
