Eustis To Reconsider Previously Denied Development Request

A 60-home development in the Three Lakes area of Dona Vista has some neighbors concerned, now that the City of Eustis has agreed to reconsider the previously denied development application.  The Eustis City Commission on Thursday, September 19, agreed to reconsider a plan for the Grove at Pine Meadows application after a community meeting the developer’s statements indicating changes to the plan could be coming.
The original proposal was for 60 single-family residential units on just under 25 acres located north of Pine Meadows Golf Course Road and south of the intersection of Orange Avenue and Beach Drive in the Dona Vista area.  The site is near the Three Lakes housing development, and some residents have voiced concern over the development's density and what it could mean for traffic in the area.
“It’s just too much,” said Heather Goss while addressing the commission.  “Please, just no.”
Additional concerns include the fact that the area’s access to SR 19 requires a north turn from the area, meaning the new homes would increase the number of people coming onto the highway in the area and having to make a U-turn further north to travel south.
Property developer Colin Cosden told the commission that there were changes coming to the previously denied plan, ideas that were developed during a community meeting held in advance of Thursday's discussion.  Exactly what those changes are remains unconfirmed, but the commission said it was willing to look at the project again if changes were proposed.
No exact date for the new hearing has been set, as city staff said certain changes would trigger a need for the project to go back through the city’s review process.
