Jordan's Way Fundraiser A Hit At Humane Society
By Charelle Burgess
On Tuesday, March 4, you could find over twenty volunteers on hand at the local Humane Society of Lake County (HSLC) to greet and eventually pull pranks for a good cause. Kris Rotonda, of the Jordan's Way tour made his stop at the Umatilla-based shelter with two goals in mind, raise lots of money and have fun doing it.
Kris opened with a pep talk for the volunteers.
"Think Jerry Lewis telethon meets Nickelodeon’s Double Dare all wrapped as one cause for the animals." He was right! The fun ranged from locking volunteers in doggie jail cells to collect bail, daring attenees to eat yucky items (one volunteer ate a cockroach!), slapping each other with tortilla shells, to getting slimed. Are we having fun yet?
The animals are the winners so, you bet! This volunteer's husband even made a $100 donation to see me get pied in the face. Yum! The three-hour live social media event helped the pack raise over $7,000. All the money will go towards shelter costs and feeding the animals. Executive Director of the HSLC, Angie Klein, was left speechless by the end of the event, not just from laughing at silly antics and screaming "Get me out of jail!", but also from the fact that so much money was raised so quickly.
"It's amazing! The community is wonderful," she stated at the end of the messy occasion. One final stunt was put on by local business owner Teresa Copley of "Empower Meal Prep" who dumped a giant bucket of macaroni and cheese on her head. "Anything for the animals!" said Teresa. Many supporters and volunteer family members sent donations during the live social media blitz on the shelter's Facebook page.
Curious fans can check out the pictures and videos from the past event at the shelter page: facebook.com/humanelake. More information on Kris and his national tour can be found at jordanswaytour.com . Beware, next year we will be looking for more victims, I mean volunteers! Pie anyone?
